The short version: Callout doesn't collect student names, emails, or any personally identifiable information from students. Students join with a session code and a self-chosen nickname. That's it. Your vetting process just got shorter.

Who We Are

Callout is operated by Simplified Labs, based in Austin, Texas. Callout is an interactive engagement platform that turns video content into real-time bingo-style games for classrooms, corporate meetings, and watch parties.

How Students Use Callout

Students participate in Callout sessions through a web browser. They do not need an account, do not download an app, and do not provide any personal information. To join a session, a student:

That's the full extent of student interaction with our service. We store the nickname and gameplay actions (which tiles were marked) linked to a session. These records contain no personally identifiable information.

Nickname-to-Name Mapping

Teachers using Callout Pro may optionally create a mapping between student nicknames and real names for their own record-keeping. This mapping is stored entirely on the teacher's own device (in the browser's local storage). It is never transmitted to our servers. If the teacher clears their browser data, the mapping is lost. This is an intentional design decision to protect student privacy.

Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Callout does not collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 (or any other age). Students who may be under 13 participate as anonymous guests with self-chosen nicknames. The Callout iOS app is designed for teachers (adults) and requires email authentication. Because no PII is collected from children, COPPA's parental consent requirements do not apply.

FERPA Compliance

FERPA protects "education records" — records directly related to a student maintained by an educational institution. Callout maintains records linked to anonymous nicknames, not to identified students. The teacher's optional client-side nickname mapping is the teacher's own record, not Callout's. Callout does not function as a "school official" with access to student records.

Data We Do NOT Share

Data Retention

Infrastructure and Security

Callout runs on Cloudflare Workers (hosting and compute) and Neon PostgreSQL (database). All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms. We do not store payment information directly — subscription billing is handled by Apple (for iOS in-app purchases) and RevenueCat.

Cookies and Local Storage

Callout uses session cookies for authentication on the web application. We do not use tracking cookies. Local storage is used for the optional nickname-to-name mapping feature (Pro) and user preferences. No third-party cookies are set.

Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting privacy@calloutgame.com. Teacher accounts can be deleted directly from the app settings. Upon deletion, all data associated with the account is permanently removed.
